UTP tells students not to return to campus yet as one student tests positive for Covid-19

IPOH: Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) students who have yet to return to campus are required to stay put until further notice after one of its students tested positive for Covid-19.

UTP in a statement today said one student was tested positive for the virus on Saturday and as such, those who returned to campus from high risk areas had been placed under isolation on campus with strictly limited movement upon their arrival.

"Apart from isolation, the university has also taken the initiative to conduct swab tests for all students returning from high risk areas.

"Following this, UTP has implemented the necessary measure to reduce Covid-19 exposure to the UTP community.

"We are extending our full cooperation to the Health Ministry on any necessary follow-up measures to ensure containment," the statement said.

It added that as a precautionary measure, the ministry had already conducted disinfection exercise across the campus yesterday.

"We would like to ensure the staff, students and parents that the case is an isolated one which was immediately attended to upon identification.

"On this note, the ministry has given consent to UTP to operate as usual," the statement said.

Yesterday, Perak recorded one case of Covid-19 involving a local who just returned from Sabah.
