KUALA LUMPUR: More than 300,000 accounts in 273 locations in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang are expected to experience water service disruption today after pollution was detected at Sungai Semenyih.
Syarikat Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said this is expected to affect a total 309,605 water account holders.
The incident has forced Air Selangor to halt the operations at its water treatment plants in Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi.
Air Selangor head of corporate communications Elina Baseri said a report has been lodged with Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and actions to identify the cause of the pollution at Sungai Semenyih and nearby tributaries are ongoing.
"Air Selangor has also activated its Emergency Response Plan (ERP) to facilitate assistance to users affected by the incident.
"At the moment, we are unable to identify the period for the resumption of the operation of the affected water treatment plants and the restoration of the water supply.
"Air Selangor will provide updates on the incident from time to time on all platforms, especially the media," she said in a statement.
Affected users, she said, have been advised to check the Air Selangor mobile application and official social media accounts for updates.
Meanwhile, LUAS via its official Twitter account, confirmed that it has received reports of foul smell similar to that of a carcass at Sungai Semenyih and Sungai Langat at 4.30pm today.
"LUAS together with other parties involved are probing the matter and taking the necessary mitigation measures," the board said.
