KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya folk have been told to refrain from panic buying as they brace for the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) which takes effect from midnight.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin advised residents at the CMCO areas to only buy essentials that would last them for two to three days and not for months.
He said this CMCO, which ends on Oct 27, differed from the first one in May, as the rules now are far more relaxed.
Muhyiddin said heads of households could still go out to buy their daily needs in supermarkets and markets while the people's daily routine would not be greatly disrupted under the CMCO this time.
"Don't panic. Go on as usual. Buy items that will last you for two to three days and add on to it after that.
"There is sufficient supply of daily needs in the market and there has not been an issue of inadequate supply during this Covid-19 pandemic.
"So there is no need to buy more than you need and stock it up because it is just going to increase your spending cost," he said during a live press conference with news editors today.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had earlier said the decision to impose CMCO in Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur was based on the advice of the Health Ministry in view of the spike of Covid-19 positive cases in areas such as Klang, Petaling and Gombak.
