KUALA LUMPUR: The number of Covid-19 positive cases in the 1 Utama Shopping Complex cluster (Utama Cluster) has climbed to 105 as of this morning, said the Petaling district office.
In a posting on its official Facebook page, the office said, so far, 79 security guards, 18 cleaners and eight of the mall tenant staff had tested positive for the virus.
"The eight mall tenant staff involved one from 1 C&C Cookies, one from Daiso and six from Teh Tarik Place.
"The Covid-19 positive cases from this cluster are foreigners, except for workers at Daiso," it said.
Last night, Petaling District Disaster Management Committee chairman Johary Anuar said the cluster recorded 63 positive cases where 16 mall workers, 44 security guards and three visitors had been infected.
However, the 1 Utama Shopping Centre management disputed the figures, saying that there were only 21 positive cases according to their records so far.
It said this was based on the two-day Covid-19 testing performed on 6,000 mall workers from Oct 11.
It said that concluded tests were obtained yesterday had successfully identified 20 tenant staff and one mall management staff as Covid-19 positive.
It said that the extra 44 security personnel pointed out by Johary were not part of its mass testing.
The 44 security guards, it said, were from a third party service provider where Covid-19 was contracted through a dormitory and not within the mall premises.
