Kedah flood evacuee numbers rise slightly overnight, two more districts affected

ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in the state has gone up slightly overnight, as two more districts in the state were inundated following heavy rain in the evening yesterday.

An 8am update from the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that Baling and Sik districts were hit by floods, bringing the evacuee count to 2,058 from 679 households sheltering in 19 temporary flood relief centres (PPS) across six districts.

This up from 1993 evacuees from 601 families in 14 PPS across four districts reported at midnight.

Kota Setar remains worst affected with 1238 evacuees from 372 families sheltering in nine PPS, down from 1242 evacuees earlier.

Pendang follows with 507 evacuees from 139 households sheltering in two PPS, unchanged from midnight.

In Pokok Sena and Kubang Pasu, the numbers are unchanged at 98 evacuees from 36 households in one PPS and 146 evacuees from 52 households in two PPS respectively.

In Baling, 69 evacuees from 26 households from three PPS were recorded while a census is being conducted in Sik to determine the total evacuees count housed in two PPS.

Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department's Public Infobanjir website indicates that two rivers in Kota Setar have breached danger levels.
