KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor's special private secretary-designate died of Covid-19 here, yesterday.
Noorzain Tawi, 60, died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here at 12.40pm.
The Sabah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leader was one of six coronavirus fatalities in the state on Saturday.
According to the Armada Bersatu Negeri Sabah Facebook page, the Tuaran Bersatu committee member was buried at 4.40pm at the Kampung Serusup Muslim cemetery in Tuaran, near here.
"It is a loss of a good leader, friend and warrior who had advised and motivated all of us," the page administrator posted on Saturday.
It is understood that Noorzain was to be officially appointed Hajiji's special private secretary (SUSK) in the newly-elected state administration.
Hajiji and his wife, Datin Seri Julia Salag, who were also infected with the coronavirus, were discharged from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital last week.
Meanwhile, Noorzain's daughter, who goes by the name of Cik Leyna Kecik Noorzain, posted on Facebook that her father was admitted to hospital earlier this month.
"Every day, when I watched the news, to see this (list of new Covid-19 deaths in the country), I was hoping that my dad would not be listed (as one of them).
"But... today..," she said, next to a picture of Noorzain, who also suffered from high blood pressure, asthma and gout.
As of yesterday, Sabah had recorded 6,287 active Covid-19 cases and 90 fatalities.
