Hajiji: Sustainable energy key to Sabah's development

KIMANIS: A sustainable and adequate energy supply will enhance the quality of life for Sabah's people and drive socio-economic development, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said the state government was committed to strengthening resource management and advancing the energy sector under the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040.

"Under this plan, the Sabah Energy Council has been established to oversee, support and guide the implementation of short-, medium- and long-term initiatives," said Hajiji.

"At its second meeting in August, the council approved several critical projects, including the development of a 700MW generation capacity to strengthen Sabah's grid system.

"The 100MW power plant project by Kimanis Power (Dua) Sdn Bhd is among the approved projects aimed at securing sufficient electricity supply to meet industrial and community needs.

"This project will certainly bolster Sabah's energy resources and supply, ensuring the wellbeing of residents."

He made these remarks during the groundbreaking for the 100MW Kimanis Power (Dua) power plant project and Kimanis Power Sdn Bhd's 15th anniversary celebration at the Kimanis power station in Papar here.

Hajiji said through close collaboration between Yayasan Sabah Group and Petronas Gas Bhd, Kimanis Power has grown as an independent power producer, playing a vital role in ensuring electricity supply stability in Sabah, a backbone to the state's development.
