RAUB: A series of landslides triggered by non-stop downpour since yesterday led to the main road to Fraser's Hill being cut off today.
Soil movement forced the road from the Gap to Fraser's Hill and the road down to the Gap to be closed to all traffic.
District police chief Superintendent Kama Azural Mohamed said the incidents were reported at Km4 and Km6 of Jalan Gap (towards Fraser Hill), along Jalan Gap (traveling down from Fraser's Hill) near SJKT Bukit Fraser and near Chini Bungalow at the hill station.
"No untoward incident or accidents were reported. The landslides were caused by heavy rain since yesterday evening. The weather has yet to improve.
"Bentong and Rawang Roadcare units have been informed. As of now, the road going up and down Fraser's Hill is closed to traffic," he said.
Besides the landslides, it was reported strong winds uprooted trees in several areas along the narrow roads at the hill station.
The recent incident is a severe blow to the tourism industry at the hill station after the road from Raub to Fraser's Hill was closed on Dec 21.
The road between Tranum and the Gap was closed to all vehicles after a huge boulder, along with earth, fell from the hillside onto the stretch. Motorist were only allowed to use the Kuala Kubu Baru road from Selangor.
Meanwhile, Tras assemblyman Chow Yu Hui wrote on Facebook that the trunk road between Bentong and Raub near Sungai Penjuring collapsed due to a landslide following heavy rain in the area.
"Besides the landslide, the road from Ulu Gali to Sungai Ruan, Sungai Chalit and Sungai Klau was closed to traffic due to rising floodwaters. The people in Raub are advised not to take any risks by driving to flood-prone areas," he said.
