EMCO at three locations extended to Jan 24

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at the Jelebu Prison and its staff quarters in Negri Sembilan has been extended to Jan 24.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement today said the extension also applied to Johor Baru Correctional Centre and staff quarters in Batu 19 Jalan Ulu Choh-Pontian and Dewan Arena Segitiga, Lot 19094, Taman Desa Sejahtera in Kota Tinggi.

The three locations were initially placed under EMCO from Dec 28 to Jan 10.

At Jelebu Prison and its staff quarters, Ismail Sabri said the Health Ministry had conducted 1,694 screenings and 459 tested positive for Covid-19.

"Some 803 screening samples are awaiting results.

"Based on recommendations by the Health Ministry, it was agreed that we extend the EMCO from Jan 11 to 24," he said.

At the Johor Baru Correctional Centre and staff quarters, Ismail Sabri said Health Ministry had conducted 1,376 screenings with 516 tested positive for Covid-19.

"The Health Ministry had confirmed that the infectivity rate among the inmates is still high, with many new cases were detected after the second screening.

"Based on recommendations by the ministry, it was agreed that we extend the EMCO from Jan 11 to 24," he said.

At the Dewan Arena Segitiga, Ismail Sabri said the Health Ministry conducted 171 screenings and 164 tested positive for Covid-19.

"The Health Ministry confirmed that the infectivity rate at this locality is still high, with the last case recorded on Jan 8.

"Based on recommendations by the ministry, it was agreed that we extend the EMCO from Jan 11 to 24," he said.

Meanwhile, despite countless reminders, the number of people arrested for flouting the standard operating procedures (SOP) continues to be in the hundreds.

Ismail Sabri the police detained 372 individuals yesterday for various offences, with all of them slapped with compounds.

Those engaging in activities at entertainment outlets topped the list with 105 arrests, followed by not providing logs to record visitors' details (95), failure to wear face masks (93), failure to practice physical distancing (76), and other offences (three)

On Op Benteng, Ismail Sabri said 26 illegal immigrants were arrested, and nine land vehicles were seized.

From July 24 up to yesterday, 101,158 individuals arrived in the country from 36 countries. They were placed at 80 hotels and 17 public training institutes and private learning institutes nationwide for mandatory quarantine.

He said currently, 8,172 individuals were observing the quarantine order, while 540 were sent to hospitals for treatment.

"To date, 92,446 people were allowed to go home."

Ismail Sabri said on Friday, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) also carried out inspections on 12 daily essential items at 689 premises, including 531 retailers, 128 wholesalers, and 30 manufacturers.

"KPDNHEP enforcement staff also conducted 1,361 operations on SOP compliance checks, with all complied with SOP under the RMCO.

Ismail Sabri added the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) conducted 14,223 checks on 8,064 construction sites nationwide since Apr 20 up to yesterday.

CIDB officers, he said, also inspected 11 construction sites yesterday and found that all SOPs were adhered to.
