KUALA LUMPUR: Self-service laundrettes in the Movement Control Order (MCO) areas are allowed to operate, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
For this, he said a staff of the laundrette should be present at the premises to ensure that patrons abide by the standard operating procedures (SOP).
"The government listens to people's grouses on the need to use the laundry to wash and dry their clothes especially during the rainy season.
"After much discussion, the government has decided to allow self-service laundrettes to operate, however there must be a staff of the laundry present to monitor the situation.
"The laundrette must provide temperature scan, hand sanitiser and the MySejahtera app. The staff should monitor that people keep to the physical distancing measures and control the number of patrons in the premise.
"Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry will also conduct checks at the laundrettes to ensure that the public comply to the SOP. If the owner was found to flout the SOP and there was no staff to monitor the premise, the ministry will close the shop," he said.
The laundrettes are allowed to operate from 6am to 8pm.
On public parks, Ismail Sabri said recreational activity including sports were not allowed at parks in the MCO areas.
He said the public can only do so only at parks in their neighbourhood areas.
"This is to avoid any action taken against the public if they are found taking part in activities at public parks in the MCO areas," he said.
