SITIAWAN: A glove manufacturing company here has been found to have violated the workers' accommodation regulations set under the Workers' Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).
The Peninsular Malaysia Labour Department enforcement director Zaini Yaacob said several offences committed by the company were uncovered during two separate raids at the foreign workers' hostels in Kampung Acheh.
Among them were overcrowding, lack of amenities and failure to obtain accommodation acknowledgement letter.
"There were six blocks of the hostels. We discovered beds were provided without mattresses.
"Each room must only accommodate two people. But we see there up to four in a room," he told reporters when met at the factory here, today.
The operation which lasted for three hours was jointly held by the police, Perak health department, the International Trade and Industry Ministry and local authorities.
Zaini said a detailed probe into the matter would be carried out pending an investigation paper.
"If the company is found guilty, the employer can be fined a maximum of RM50,000 per worker."
On Nov 26 last year, the department found a glove manufacturing company to have violated Act 446 during a raid.
Among the offences were the failure to obtain an accommodation acknowledgement letter from the department, overcrowding and unsanitary conditions.
Subsequently, the department opened 10 investigation papers against the company and the case would be forwarded to the deputy public prosecutor's office.
