KUALA LUMPUR: Daily Covid-19 cases hit a new record today, breaching the four thousand mark for the first time since the pandemic hit Malaysian shores.
At 4,029 cases, only eight were imported, taking the total number of cases to 155,095.
The previous highest daily total was 3,337 cases logged on Jan 14. Prior to that, Malaysia logged 3,309 cases on Jan 12; 3,211 yesterday and 3,027 cases on Jan 7.
In a statement, the Health Ministry informed that there are 37,126 active cases in the country.
Meanwhile, 2,148 more patients have recovered and discharged from hospitals nationwide, taking the number of recoveries to 117,375.
"There are 205 patients currently being treated at Intensive Care Units and 79 require breathing assistance."
The Health Ministry also informed that eight patients had died from the infection as of noon today, bringing the nation's death toll to 594.
