Gua Musang couple flees hospital to dodge Covid-19 test

KOTA BARU: An Orang Asli couple has gone missing from the Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital in Kuala Krai, near here, where they were scheduled to undergo a Covid-19 screening test.

The couple, from Kampung Pos Tohoi near Gua Musang, had been taken to the hospital after their 25 day-old baby girl tested positive for the coronavirus.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said the couple is believed to have fled the premises at about 9.30pm on Thursday.

He said police received a report on the incident yesterday morning.

"In the report, a hospital personnel who was on duty at the emergency ward, claimed that the husband and wife went missing after they were asked to undergo the screening test.

"She tried to locate them at the hospital but failed. She then lodged a report at the Kuala Krai police station," said Shafien.

He added that the woman was identified as Elina Aling, 33, while the identity of the husband has yet to be ascertained.

Shafien said a special task force was formed on Friday to track down the couple.

"The police team had gone to look for the couple at their settlement, but they were not found there. A relative said the couple did not return to their home," he added.
