Driver killed in another lorry crash in Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG: A lorry driver was killed and his attendant suffered serious injuries when their vehicle skidded and landed on its side here today.

The incident happened just a few days logs from a lorry hit a young woman motorcyclist, resulting in her suffering serious injuries all over her body.

District police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the latest incident happened at Km70 Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai.

He said the lorry laden with scrap metal was travelling from Gua Musang to Kuala Krai when the incident happened about 8.40am.

"Initial investigations showed that the 27-year-old lorry driver had lost control of the machine when negotiating a bend.

"This resulted in the lorry skidding before landing on its side on the right side of the road. The driver was killed instantly.

"His attendant suffered injuries and was rushed to Kuala Krai Hospital," he said in a statement.

On Tuesday, 21-year-old motorcyclist Siti Norelyana Kamarulzaman, was stopped at the Bendahara intersection when she was struck by logs.

She is currently warded at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ) in Kota Baru where she is being treated for fractures to her spine and ribs, as well as severe injuries to her liver, spleen, gallbladder, and intestines.

Due to the severity of her injuries, she was placed in an induced coma.

Police today confirmed that the lorry driver in Siti Norelyana's case did not possess a valid license.

A summons was issued to the lorry owner for allowing the vehicle to be driven by an unlicensed individual.
