KUALA LUMPUR: The Covid-19 screening for foreign workers will now include those in retail and services sectors, which are allowed to resume from tomorrow.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said currently, foreigners working in factories, construction sites and security were being tested for Covid-19.
"With the reopening of the other sectors, the screening will be expanded. I will discuss this further with the Human Resources Ministry," he said at a press conference today.
Ismail Sabri earlier announced the reopening of various retail sectors and the lifting of dine-in ban starting tomorrow.
He said a total of 332,216 foreign workers had underwent Covid-19 screening, involving 14,568 employers.
Out of the total, 6,375 tested positive for the virus.
Yesterday, 94 foreign workers out of 12,454 screened tested positive for Covid-19.
All foreign workers nationwide are required to undergo mandatory Covid-19 screening from Dec 1, which are done in stages, with their respective employers bearing the cost of the procedures.
This was following the increasing number of positive cases among foreign workers particularly at factories and construction sites.
