KUALA LUMPUR: The death today of academician and economist Professor Dr Hoo Ke Ping is a great loss to the country and the people.
Pertubuhan Intelektual Negara (Pintar) president Professor Dr Mohd Roslan Mohd Nor said the late Hoo had actively provided his views and insights, whether in WhatsApp groups, on social media, or mainstream media platforms.
Hoo, who was also a Pintar committee member, reportedly died at his home in Kuala Lumpur at around 9am today of a heart attack.
"He was also an analyst and economic advisor for the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific, where he provided his views on the country's economic situation during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and the emergency period.
"Not too long ago, Hoo's prediction that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Umno and Pas would win big in the 15th General Election received widespread coverage in local media," Mohd Roslan said in a statement today.
He described Hoo as someone who was always ready to obtain economic analysis from various points of view.
Mohd Roslan said Hoo was scheduled to appear as a panelist at the National Intellectual Webinar, to discuss the Covid-19 vaccine, in a session titled 'Vaksin: Sejauh Manakah Ia Mampu Menjadi Penyelamat?', scheduled for tonight.
"As a sign of respect to his contribution and for our loss, Pintar has agreed to postpone the National Intellectual Webinar, which was planned for tonight with other panelists.
"We at Pintar express our condolences to his family," he added.
