KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is currently in the last phase of the northeast monsoon which is expected to last until mid-March.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in a statement today, said Peninsular Malaysia, especially the northern part, would experience lower rainfall distribution during this period.
"Lower rainfall distribution over a period of time can result in a slightly hot weather, especially at night, due to cloud cover. However, MetMalaysia is not anticipating extreme hot weather to occur this year.
"The hot weather currently is a usual phenomenon throughout February until April every year. To date, the highest temperature recorded for February is lower than the temperature recorded for last year.
"The highest temperature recorded in Feb 2021 is 36.2˚Celsius while the highest temperature recorded in 2020 is 37.4˚Celsius which was observed at the Kuala Kangsar Meteorology Station, Perak," read the statement.
MetMalaysia said the hot weather currently experienced by most part of the countries would gradually ease by mid-April this year.
During this period, MetMalaysia advised the public to use water frugally, to avoid open burning, reduce outdoor activities and to drink plenty of water.
It also encouraged the public to keep updated with the weather changes by getting information from its official website, myCuaca application, and MetMalaysia social media.
