Malaysia ready to roll out Covid-19 vaccination programme, says Dr Adham

KUALA LUMPUR: After a successful simulation today, the Health Ministry says it is ready for the roll out of the Covid-19 vaccination programme, set for tomorrow.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the main purpose of the simulation was to test the readiness and process of the inoculation programme, ensuring that it would be conducted according to the guidelines on Covid-19 immunisation.

"This simulation is very important to ensure the smooth vaccination process on the field, and especially when it will be conducted on a larger scale in phases two and three.

"The simulation conducted today involved a category one vaccination centre, with 10 Health Ministry personnel and 10 non-ministry personnel," he said in a statement today.

The vaccination process in vaccination centres would involve eight types of centres, categorised from one to eight.

These categories, Dr Adham explained, were classified based on the number of personnel and the size of the area.

Those who would be immunised would go through five stations at the vaccination centre, with the first being a screening for symptoms and a temperature check.

He said registration is conducted at the second station, followed by counseling and immunisation consent at the third.

They would then be vaccinated at the fourth station and then monitored at the fifth station for 15 to 30 minutes.

"The ministry hopes that communities nationwide who are eligible for the vaccine carry out this responsibility to achieve a target of 70 to 80 per cent, for herd immunity.

"When a large portion of the people have been vaccinated, the spread of Covid-19 within the community can be prevented and further curb the pandemic."

He also expressed hope for the support of all Malaysians and stressed that the vaccination was a preventive measure to protect themselves and the people around them.

"I also hope that with preventive steps, the increase in public health control, public adherence to the standard operating procedures, practising new norms and the immunisation, we can put an end to this Covid-19 pandemic together," Dr Adham added.
