RANTAU PANJANG: The crowd at Zoo Negara reached its maximum capacity of 2,500 per day on the first two days of reopening.
The 2,500 capacity was set by the National Security Council (NSC) recently.
Zoo Negara zoology and veterinary director Dr Naim Ramli said the figure was recorded since the zoo reopened to visitors last Friday.
"The figure reached the maximum level set by the NSC not only on Friday but also the following day," he said when met here yesterday.
Dr Naim said believed the overwhelming response was due to the 20 per cent discount offered by Zoo Negara to visitors.
"Before this, we charged adult visitors RM45 per entry and RM18 for children.
"But recently, we decided to drop the fee by 20 per cent on Friday when we reopened," he said, expressing hope that the public, especially parents would continue visiting the zoo which is open every day.
It is learnt that Zoo Negara had received over RM11 million from government agencies, non-governmental organisations, volunteer bodies and individuals throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO) period used to purchase food and medicine for the animals as well as operating costs.
To attract more visitors to the place, Zoo Negara also allowed 70 to 90 anglers to try their luck fishing at the lake from 9am to 3.30pm daily at RM35 per person.
