KUALA LUMPUR: The police are required to issue the RM10,000 compound for any individual found violating the Movement Control Order's (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOP), based on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob clarified that the police had no power to write an amount less than the RM10,000 figure as it was stipulated in the law, but said all compounds can be appealed.
"The RM10,000 compound is not an issue. The people must understand that the police compound you based on Act 342.
"The police cannot issue you a compound of RM1,000 because the law says that the amount is now RM10,000.
"However, the individual being fined can make an appeal to the district health officer, and it is up to this officer to decide on the final amount of the compound."
Ismail Sabri said this at the One Serviceman One House (Sasar) project groundbreaking ceremony at the Transmitter Camp in Sungai Besi.
He added that the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador had explained that the full compound was for repeat offenders and those who make serious violations of the SOP.
"If you wear a pink wristband (to undergo mandatory quarantine) but go out and about and endanger the safety of the people, of course the police will take strict action."
He also said the RM10,000 compound was applicable to all areas regardless of the type of MCO being enforced.
Earlier, Ismail Sabri, who is also Defence Minister, said the 3,500 apartment units under the Sasar project in Sungai Besi was to ensure that all servicemen and army veteran would be able to own a home.
The project consists of three categories, namely; Type A (1,800 units of 1,000 sq ft apartments), Type B (1,200 units of 1,100 sq ft apartments), and Type C (500 units of 1,200 sq ft apartments).
The units would be priced between RM150,000 and RM250,000.
"It will be completed by 2024, and equipped with facilities such as a hall, surau, and guard post."
He added that the cabinet had also approved in principle to two more Sasar projects which would be located in Genting Klang and Wardieburn in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.
