Perak DAP Convention marred with shouts of 'Nga tipu'

IPOH: A commotion broke out at the state's 19th DAP Convention today after factions from M. Kulasegaran and Thomas Su Keong Siong claimed the election process was being held unfairly.

Su, who is also Kampar MP claimed that the registration was supposed to close at 10am today but after the time was up, the organiser called branches which had yet to register to do so in order to vote.

He accused the election committee of only reaching out to delegates from factions associated with Nga Kor Ming and advisor Ngeh Koo Ham, who have yet to register to vote.

"According to the letter, it is very clear that registration was opened from 8.30am to 10am. However, after 10am, the organiser was still contacting those who had yet to register.

"They (the organiser) know there were branches yet to register and they were calling them to do so. It is unfair.

"Either they need to stop it (calling the branches) or allow us to call our branches too. Don't take advantage… What is this?

"The election must be fair. They have the attendance list, which means they know that there are some branches that are not here yet.

"They should not take advantage. If they can call their supporters, I can call too. Let's have the same information (the list)," he said when met.

Another group from the same faction outside the hall then started shouting "Nga tipu (Nga is a liar)".

A total 2,135 delegates from 309 party branches throughout the state are expected to cast their votes in the party's triennial polls today at the Ipoh Convention Centre, which coincides with the state's party convention.

As of 10am, a total of 2,175 delegates had registered.
