SOP violators: From 6 to 100

KUALA LUMPUR: With only six found to have flouted the Movement Control Order's standard operating procedures (SOP) on Friday, the number multiplied many folds with 100 nabbed yesterday.

The trend over the last couple of days, following the increase in penalty involving SOP violations saw the number of violators coming down to double-digit after hovering in the three-digit range for quite some time.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 97 of those nabbed yesterday were compounded while three were remanded.

Offences recorded were failure to observe physical distancing (48), failure to provide equipment to record customers' information at premises (27), engaging in activities at entertainment outlets (12), not wearing face mask (11) and interstate/interdistrict travel without permission (2).

Only six people were arrested on Friday for violating the SOP and 52 the day before.

The SOP Compliance Operations Task Force, led by the police conducted 67,520 checks nationwide yesterday.

A total of 3,594 compliance teams involving 16,017 personnel checked 6,190 restaurants, supermarkets (4,773), hawkers (2,870), factories (1,979), banks (3,954), and government offices (685).

Also monitored were land transport terminals (1,545), water transport terminals (393) and air transport terminals (143).

Seven illegal immigrants were detained with seven land vehicles seized during Ops Benteng yesterday, Ismail Sabri said.

He added that 267 roadblocks were set up nationwide by the police, armed forces, the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) and the Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem).

Meanwhile, 831 individuals arrived in the country via international entry points yesterday and they were all ordered to undergo mandatory quarantine at designated centres.

Currently, a total of 7,044 returnees are still observing the mandatory quarantine at 77 hotels, 11 public training institutes and private education institutes.

He added that of the 3,197 foreign workers who went for mandatory Covid-19 screening yesterday, 12 tested positive for the virus.
