BUKIT MERTAJAM: Bukit Mertajam member of parliament Steven Sim Chee Keong has come to the aid of a family of 11, who were evicted from their home here today, after their mother failed to pay the rent.
Taking to his Facebook, Sim said he was alerted to the family's plight this morning and went to check on them.
Sim said when he reached the woman's house, known only as Ros,
her things were already packed up and she was sitting outside, not knowing what to do.
Ros has 10 children with the youngest being three.
"(When I reached the house) the woman was crying outside, thinking of her family's fate.
"I then assured her that before the sun sets today, I will have a place for her to move into," he said.
Sim also uploaded several photos of the woman and her children on his FB.
The New Straits Times has attempted to contact Sim for further details but to no avail.
Sim later brought the woman and her children to Tesco Bukit Mertajam to stock up
on their daily necessities.
He also bought for the younger children some toys; and new clothes for each them for the forthcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
As for Ros' daughter, Sim got her a tablet computer for her studies at a secondary school here.
Sim also took the family for a meal at McDonald's.
"We then proceeded to a temporary house for the family.
"I assured the woman that she need not worry about the rental and can stay there until they get a home from the state government," he added.
