KUANTAN: The Kuantan City Council (MBK) has prohibited the elderly and children to enter the Ramadan bazaars here starting today.
Kuantan Mayor Datuk Hamdan Hussin said the decision was made to curb the spread of Covid-19 cases which are on the rise in the district.
He also reminded customers and traders to continue to adhere to the Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) at the bazaar.
"It is not only the traders that must be disciplined but also the customers because we do not want cases involving Ramadan bazaars.
"When queuing, remember to practise social distancing of one metre apart," he said after visiting cleaning works around the Pantai Sepat area here.
Also present at the event was State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Rahim Muda and Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) director Sharudin Hamid.
For the fasting month, MBK approved 26 Ramadan bazaar locations to operate in the district.
On the numbering system at the bazaars, Hamdan said it was to control the number of people at the premises at a time.
"MBK will always make announcements and hold inspections at the bazaars to ensure both traders and customers comply with the SOP.
"Any violations of the SOP will cause the traders to be slapped with a compound or have their business licence revoked." he said.
