Man escapes unhurt in cooking gas cylinder blast in Kuantan home

KUANTAN: A man escaped dazed but unhurt after a gas cylinder exploded at his house in Taman Mega Ria along Jalan Gambang here yesterday.

The 54-year-old victim was, fortunately, in one of the rooms and not the kitchen when the mishap occurred at 7.10pm.

Taman Tas fire station chief Mohd Hilmi Kashfi Mat Zali said the impact of the blast damaged several sections of the house, including the ceiling.

"The sliding glass door shattered, some parts of the ceiling collapsed and the entire kitchen was left in a mess. Pieces of broken glass and bits of the ceiling were scattered throughout the kitchen and living room.

"The man was alone at home while his family members had gone out. Luckily, no one was in the kitchen during the incident," he said.

Hilmi Kashfi said nine firemen were deployed to the scene.

It is learnt that the department is still trying to establish the cause of the explosion, including the possibility of a gas leak.
