RANAU: People scaling Malaysia's tallest peak, the 4,095-m Mount Kinabalu, may be a common sight, but not when it's Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.
Jeffery, who is 73 and the organising chairman of the state-level Kaamatan or harvest festival, led a group of 50 climbers in the expedition.
Donning a long sleeved top and shorts, Jeffrey, accompanied by wife Datin Seri Cecilia Edwin, arrived at the Panalaban Base Camp around 4pm this evening.
"The expedition is Jeffrey's initiative to help promote the 'Jom Sihat' programme and more importantly, the diversity of the Kadazan Dusun Murut cultural costumes in conjunction with this year's Kaamatan.
"The group is expected to reach the summit at 7am tomorrow where they will pose with their traditional attire atop Mount Kinabalu," read a statement.
The month-long harvest festival was launched on May 1 with the theme "A Borderless Kaamatan for Peace and Reconciliation".
