More locations in Pahang to go under EMCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Several more localities in Pahang will be placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from May 10 to 23 after health authorities recorded a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said two locations in Muadzam Shah, Rompin which will be placed under EMCO are Kampung Meripoh and Kota Bahagia where 11 people have tested positive for Covid-19.

"The Health Ministry had so far conducted Covid-19 tests on 221 people and out of that figure, 11 tested positive, 22 tested negative while the results of the remaining 188 have yet to be obtained," he said in a statement today.

Several places in Genting Highlands, according to Ismail Sabri, will also be placed under the EMCO for two weeks after 13 people tested positive for the coronavirus.

The areas are Genting View Resort, Meranti Apartment, Windmills Condo, Vista Residence, Mawar Apartment, Midhill Apartment and the Ramin Apartment.

"For the past two weeks, the Health Ministry has detected 13 Covid-19 positive cases out of the 50 people who underwent testing.

"The implementation of this EMCO will help the Health Ministry to conduct a more targeted screening so that the chain of Covid-19 infection can be curbed," he said.

Ismail also announced that the current EMCO in Kampung Dambai Inanam, Kota Kinabalu as well as Bandar Sri Indah and Kampung Titingan in Tawau, Sabah will end tomorrow as scheduled.

Previously, 23 of 387 people tested positive for Covid-19 at Kampung Dambai Inanam but according to the Senior Minister, the Health Ministry was successful in controlling the outbreak there.

"The same goes for Bandar Sri Indah and Kampung Titingan. The Health Ministry had previously tested 1,192 people in Bandar Sri Indah and of that, 52 tested positive while 58 out of 852 tested positive in Kampung Titingan.

"The Health Ministry has reported a decline in the number of cases. The clusters are now under control and there are no further screening samples that are pending in these two localities.

"After conducting a risk assessment with various agencies in the MCO Technical Committee and on the advice of the Health Ministry, the government has agreed to end the EMCO in these areas on May 9 as scheduled."

Following the latest MCO announcements, Ismail said all inter-district and inter-state travels without police permission are prohibited between May 10 to June 6.

Activities including social, education and economic involving large gatherings are also banned.

"This also includes official, social and face-to-face activities by government and private agencies.

"However, these will be re-evaluated after two weeks," he said
