KUALA LUMPUR: The time stamp of one's entry into a premises on the Mysejahtera application will assist in ensuring compliance to the government's two-hour shopping limit at all retail premises including shopping complexes under the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said however it was imperative that people practice self-discipline by not exceeding the time limit set by the government to fight the Covid-19 spread.
"We have the mechanism to monitor via MySejahtera which records the time, down to the second upon one's entry. We seek the cooperation of the owners as well as customers to follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
"We hope the owners will also remind their customers in the premises about it. For a start, we will assist by monitoring the situation randomly at identified spots.
"We will deploy our enforcement teams of about 2,200 personnel nationwide to monitor the situation to the best we can," he said today.
He said this at a virtual press conference after announcing the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) to mark the upcoming Pesta Kaamatan in Sabah and Hari Gawai in Sarawak respectively.
Separately, Alexander said people were barred from dining in their vehicles though they are from the same household.
"There is no SOP that allows it for now. As long as there is none, it means it's prohibited," he said.
Alexander also said the ministry sticks to the SOP where parents are advised against bringing children under the age of 12 into supermarkets.
"They are not barred from entering but it is not encouraged. We understand that there are single parents who are unable to put their children under other people's watch when they have to go to the supermarket.
"As a concerned government, we understand their plight but if they have no choice, they must practice self discipline and use their wisdom.
"If they can leave the children with relatives, please do so because it is best that they do not go to malls or supermarkets," he said.
