SIMPANG PULAI: Jalan Simpang Pulai-Blue Valley, which has been closed for almost a month due to a landslide, is expected to reopen on Nov 25 for limited hours.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said once it reopened, motorists could use the route to Cameron Highlands between 7pm and 7am to accommodate the construction of a rock shed.
He said the reopening would depend on the progress of clearing works, installation of canvas sheets and the placement of gabions at Section 42.7 of Jalan Simpang Pulai-Blue Valley.
"I was informed that temporary works are expected to be completed by the end of December. After that, the permanent solution works (rock shed) will begin, which will require a substantial allocation," he told reporters after visiting the landslide area today.
He added that the 100m rock shed would cost over RM20 million and was a long-term solution.
"We aim to expedite the construction of the rock shed by using existing ministry funds before seeking reimbursement from other ministries. This approach demonstrates our commitment to avoiding delays.
"The permanent repair works are expected to take two years to complete," he said, adding that the rock shed was meant to prevent rocks or soil from falling onto the road during a landslide.
Nanta also called for the cooperation of all parties, particularly farmers in Cameron Highlands.
"This area is known for vegetable farming. I ask for their patience as we ensure the best possible work is done. If the road is unsafe, lives could be at risk, and that is our primary concern."
On Oct 23, a landslide was reported at FT185, Simpang Pulai- Blue Valley.
