KUANTAN: Planning to try your luck by walking into a vaccination centre (PPV) without a scheduled appointment? Think again.
Pahang health authorities will not hesitate to issue compounds to those with unscheduled appointments who turn up at the PPVs, which often results in huge crowds outside the centres.
State Health director Datuk Dr Bahari Che Awang Ngah said issuing compounds might be the solution to ensure people do not come in droves hoping to get a shot of the vaccine.
"I have received reports from the vaccination centres where there were cases of individuals without prior vaccine appointments gathering at the entrance hoping for a chance to be vaccinated. The authorities will not accept such acts as everyone has to follow the process.
"So, instead of calling the police to disperse the crowd, the health authorities will issue compounds as their presence has surely resulted in congestion and they have violated the '3Cs', namely crowded places, confined spaces and close conversations," he said when contacted today.
It was alleged that some quarters received their vaccination by trying their luck at the PPVs here and when news about their "success" broke-out, others decided to follow their footsteps by turning up at the centres.
It is learnt that some who turned up at the PPVs claimed that their friends had managed to get "unscheduled" doses and questioned why they were denied similar treatment.
Meanwhile, Dr Bahari said the vaccination centres already have a second list of names to contact in case a scheduled individual fails to turn up at a designated PPV.
"There is nothing such as 'standby jabs' as the PPVs will refer to the names on the second list to replace those who failed to attend their appointment. PPVs will not entertain walk-ins.
"Do not gather outside the PPVs. Instead, wait for your appointments or the centres to call before coming as such irresponsible acts will only result in unnecessary congestion," he said.
