KUALA LUMPUR: National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan borrowers may apply for a three-month deferment to repay their loans.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said borrowers may begin applying for the deferment on the PTPTN website beginning tomorrow till the end of August.
However, she said the deferment will only be given to applicants who qualify.
She said the move to offer the three-month moratorium was because some of the borrowers are still affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and unable to repay their loans.
"The deferral of repayment will take effect from the month the application is approved, and PTPTN will provide further details on how the extension of the loan repayment will be implemented.
"The ministry hopes this announcement will ease the burden of borrowers," she said in a statement today.
Last year, the government announced a deferment of loan repayment for all PTPTN borrowers due to the Covid-19 pandemic, effective March 19, 2020 to Dec 31, 2020.
It was then extended for another three months between January and May this year for those who are still affected.
For more details, borrowers can contact the PTPTN Careline at 03-21933000 from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm, for further enquiries.
