PASIR MAS: Abdul Rani Hamat has been raising his four children in an old and dilapidated wooden house in Kampung Kubang Bunut since he was divorced six years ago.
For a living, the 61-year-old works as a carpenter to support his family but since four months ago, they faced financial problems as there has been no work.
The father of seven not only worries about the fate of his children but also his two grandchildren who stay with him after their mother got divorced.
"The other four adults (in this household) and I can get by with whatever food we have as my third daughter Shahirah who has two children and was divorced last year, is also helping me with her online business.
"What worries me most is the two children, aged four and six, because they need nutritious food," said Abdul Rani whose three other children live with his former wife.
He said his family was grateful that several villagers as well as local community leaders, were willing to help them with donations.
The family today received a surprise visit from Pasir Mas Member of Parliament Ahmad Fadhli Shaari who handed over food donations to the family.
Abdul Rani thanked Ahmad Fadhli as well as the Federal Government for the donation, saying it would ease his family's burdens.
Ahmad Fadhli said the family was among those selected to receive the Government's food basket.
