ALOR STAR: Pokok Sena Member of Parliament Datuk Mahfuz Omar is ready to be investigated for allegedly violating the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
The former deputy minister said he would cooperate fully in the investigation by police.
"I was made to understand that police have opened a file and I respect the move by the Police to initiate a probe.
"I am also prepared to fully cooperate throughout the investigation," he said when contacted here today.
Yesterday, several pictures went viral on the social media platform showing a Member of Parliament present at an aid program, which saw him not practising the SOP set by the National Security Council (NSC) while having afternoon tea with several other individuals in close proximity.
The picture also showed the lawmaker meeting 35 families from several villages when delivering 'Bakul Rahmah' aid to families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mahfuz's action drew the ire of netizens who questioned him for violating NRP SOPs under Phase 1 which has been imposed in Kedah.
Meanwhile, Kota Star District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir confirmed that a police report related to a viral photo involving a Member of Parliament accused of violating the NRP SOP was lodged last night.
"At 11.36 pm last night, a police report was lodged and the initial investigation found that there were several pictures uploaded by the owner of the Facebook account, Nurul Amin Hamid, featuring a Member of Parliament in Kedah at a programme.
"The case is being investigated under Rules 7 11 (1) and 17 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 for the offence of gathering in a public place, not wearing a face mask and not maintaining social distancing," he said in a statement today.
