EMCO at all 34 Selangor sub-districts ends today

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) enforced at 34 sub-districts in Selangor will end today.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a statement, said, the National Security Council (NSC) has agreed not to extend the EMCO in all sub-districts involved.

The decision was made following an assessment by the Health Ministry on the situation. The 34 sub-districts were placed under EMCO since July 3.

Ismail Sabri said the government had also agreed to end the EMCO tomorrow (July 17) at eight localities in Kedah, Sabah, Penang, and Negri Sembilan as scheduled.

The localities in Kedah are Kilang Jimat Jaya Sdn Bhd, Kawasan Industri Ringan Bukit Makmur, and the workers' hostel in Kuala Muda.

In Sabah, the localities are Kampung Pantai Emas in Kota Belud, Kampung Iban Kuala Nansang in Tawau, and Kampung Babagon in Penampang.

"In Penang, the locality is Taman Nagasari in Seberang Perai Tengah, while in Negri Sembilan at Taman Desaria in Seremban."

Meanwhile, 13 localities in the Kuantan district in Pahang will go under EMCO for two weeks from July 18 to 31.

Ismail Sabri said the affected areas are Tanjung Lumpur, Peramu, Anak Air, Sungai Derhaka, Kempadang, Sungai Soi, Kampung Pahang, Taman Seri Inderapura, Taman Indera Sempurna, Taman Tas and Pandan, Sungai Isap, Lorong Seri Teruntum, and Taman Impianku.

Taman Chengal in Temerloh will also be placed under the EMCO.

In Selangor, four localities to go under EMCO are Damai Apartment in PJS8, Jalan Pandan Indah in Ampang, Jalan Batu Nilam in Klang, and Taman Samudera in Gombak.

"In Sabah, the EMCO will be imposed at Ladang Sawit KLK Lungmanis and the factory's housing area in Lahad Datu, Kampung Pinolobuh Bukid in Kota Belud and PPR Taman Ehsan in Kudat.

"In Sarawak, the localities are Kampung Seratau, Kampung Astana Lot, and Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar, all in Kuching," said the deputy prime minister.

Ismail Sabri also said the EMCO at Kampung Siasai Dundau in Kota Belud and Kampung Naruntung in Pitas, both in Sabah, which was supposed to end today and tomorrow, respectively, had been extended for another two weeks from July 18 to 31.

On the standard operating procedure (SOP) violations, Ismail Sabri said 416 people were arrested for various violations on Thursday.

"404 of them were issued with compounds, while the remaining 12 had been remanded," he said.

He added that the SOP compliance task force led by the police had carried out 84,976 inspections and Covid-19 snap checks nationwide, involving 19,133 personnel on Thursday.

"The teams also inspected 2,309 factories, 14,237 business premises, 833 construction sites, and 322 workers' hostels," he said, adding that 65 premises that flouted the SOP were ordered to close.

He said the authorities had also tightened their enforcement on factories and business premises since they were found to be among the highest contributing factors to new Covid-19 cases in the country.

On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said authorities arrested 57 illegals and seized nine land vehicles at the borders.

Enforcement agencies also jointly mounted 890 roadblocks nationwide through Ops Penawar and Ops Benteng to ensure the SOP were diligently followed.

"The Fire and Rescue Department and local government enforcement officers carried out 164 sanitisation operations in 67 red zones, three orange zones, and eight yellow zones."

The deputy prime minister said 673 people who returned to Malaysia on Thursday had been ordered to undergo the mandatory quarantine at designated centres.

Ismail Sabri also said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry yesterday compounded four premises for failing to follow the SOP.
