KUALA LUMPUR: Every adult in the country is expected to be fully vaccinated by the end of October this year.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said 80 per cent of the total population in the country would also be vaccinated by then.
He expressed confidence to reach the target due to the encouraging development of the vaccine rollout under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP).
"Alhamdulillah, the vaccination process is ongoing as scheduled. By Aug 31, more than 60 per cent of adults or 40 per cent of the total population will have received the full dose of vaccines.
"This is good news as we approach Merdeka day," he said in his Facebook posting today.
The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) today had briefed the prime minister pertaining to Malaysia's vaccination rate.
Based on local and foreign data, Muhyiddin said Covid-19 cases under Category 4 and 5 together with deaths would see a sharp decline due to high vaccination rate.
"Insya-Allah, lets pray for our country to quickly recover from the pandemic," he added.
