KUALA LUMPUR: The entire Perikatan Nasional (PN) cabinet members have tendered their resignations to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin confirmed this through an Instagram story posted at about 1.10pm today.
"The cabinet has tendered our resignation to the Agong.
"Thank you for the opportunity to, once again, serve the nation.
"May God bless Malaysia," Khairy wrote.
At 1.02pm, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was seen leaving Istana Negara, here, after spending about 40 minutes inside the premises.
He was granted an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
The Pagoh member of parliament is expected to give a special address that will be broadcast live at about 2pm today.
It was earlier understood that the audience with the King was regarding Muhyiddin tendering his resignation.
This morning, Muhyiddin had chaired a special cabinet meeting at the Putra Perdana complex in Putrajaya near here.
Apart from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and other cabinet members, also seen entering and leaving the Putra Perdana complex were Armed Forces chief Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Special Functions) Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, who is also the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Supreme Council member, told several media outlets yesterday that Muhyiddin had expressed his intention to submit his resignation to the King.
Redzuan had said Muhyiddin, who is Bersatu president, made known of his intention when the latter chaired the party's supreme council meeting at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) headquarters in Publika, here, yesterday.
He added that Muhyiddin expressed his intention to resign as the latter respected the provisions enshrined the Federal Constitution amidst the political turmoil that was triggered after the retraction of support by Umno towards him and the PN administration.
Redzuan had also said Muhyiddin is expected to make an announcement today over the outcome of yesterday's meeting and the special Cabinet meeting this morning.
