Khairy: No deaths linked to vaccinations in Malaysia [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: There are no deaths in Malaysia linked to Covid-19 vaccination so far, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today.

He said the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) was committed to ensureing the safety of Covid-19 vaccines through the monitoring of adverse events following immunisation (AEFI).

"From the start of vaccine rollout on Feb 24 to Aug 31, 34,455,366 vaccine doses have been administered, with 20.7 response for every 1,000 doses received via MySejahtera applications for documented minor reactions.

"The reactions include injection site pain, headache and lethargy.

"Through the existing NPRA AEFI reporting system, the rate of overall reporting received is 0.53 per 1,000 doses."

He said 0.04 per 1,000 doses reports were categorised as serious AEFI.

"Majority of serious cases only requires a short period of hospitalisation for observation and treatment," he said, adding that more detailed data on AEFI would be disclosed to the public next week.
