KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been appointed as the National Recovery Council chairman with ministerial status.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had been informed of the appointment.
"Members of the Cabinet had, in its meeting on Sept 1, agree to appoint Muhyiddin as the National Recovery Council chairman with ministerial status.
"This appointment is made based on the government's confidence in Muhyiddin's ability to lead the country's recovery strategy, in order to achieve the best economic impact and restore the livelihood of the people severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic," he said in a statement today.
Mohd Zuki, who is also the Cabinet Secretary, said the government congratulated Muhyiddin on the appointment.
