SEPANG: The administration of a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, or booster shot, will only be offered to eligible groups.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the eligible groups were those deemed by the medical practitioners as being in need of the booster shot.
"The booster shot is only offered to the people who should have it. These include those aged 60 and above, people with comorbidities, and immuno-compromised.
"We are not recommending booster shots for healthy people, but only for certain groups," he said, after visiting the BP Healthcare Covid-19 Health Screening Centre at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
He said this in response to a question that some were reluctant to take the booster shot.
Khairy said he himself will not be taking the booster shot.
"I'm young and with no comorbidities so far, InsyaAllah. So, I wouldn't be taking a booster shot, because I'll be taking it (the booster shot) from somebody else (who is in need of it)," he said.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement said the government will administer a third Covid-19 vaccine dose or booster shot after the nationwide vaccination rate exceeds 80 per cent of the adult population.
He said the priority for the administration of the third dose would be given to high-risk groups.
