KUALA LUMPUR: The inking of the Political Transformation and Stability memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the federal government and Pakatan Harapan is not a sign of support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Khalid Abdul Samad (PH-Shah Alam) explained that the MoU was signed and agreed between PH and the government to address the Covid-19 pandemic and for the economic recovery of the country.
"Some had reportedly said without the MoU, the government would only last for 30 days and this came from an Umno MP, not even PH.
"This is an embarrassing statement because we are not showing support for the Bera MP (Ismail Sabri), we are in a cooperation to address the Covid-19 pandemic and economy," he said.
The Parti Amanah Negara communications director said this in his debate on the motion of thanks on the Royal Address in the Dewan Rakyat today.
"It is because (Ismail Sabri) had 114 majority support from the MPs and do not say the MoU will save YB Bera because it is not the main goal here.
"If the majority MPs do not betray him or each other just like the Barisan Nasional political games, then he will be saved and continue to be the prime minister," he said.
Khalid also challenged MPs who had previously won their seats under PH and now are in the Perikatan Nasional administration to contest in the same seat in the 15th General Election.
"The party-hopping culture had caused Langkah Sheraton and then fall of PH. I challenge Gombak MP and Bandar Tun Razak to contest in the next election.
"You both won the election under PH but now try to contest under PN. This is why the anti-hopping law should be implemented," he said.
The Gombak seat is held by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, whereas the Bandar Tun Razak seat is held by Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar.
