Low water pressure as of 4pm, residents note

KUALA LUMPUR: Scheduled water supply disruption in the Klang Valley in almost 1,000 areas from today has so far not resulted in dry taps in many of the affected households and business premises.

Residents in the affected areas, however, noted the low water pressure in their areas and praised Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) for posting frequent updates on its Facebook page.

The water concessionaire has been posting regular updates and progress of Sungai Selangor Phase 1 Water Treatment Plant (SSP1 WTP) due to upgrading and maintenance works that started at 9am today.

As of 4pm, over 70 percent of the works have reportedly been completed.

Checks at two public water taps in Shah Alam near Alam Impian and Bukit Rimau this morning, did not see any of the affected residents queuing up to collect water.

As of 3pm, several eateries at Taman Mayang, Petaling Jaya, also reported low water pressure but no dry taps.

Cafe assistant Siti Nurul Ain Izzati Abd Shukor said to ensure that the restaurant operations remained uninterrupted, the workers had stocked up on water.

Earlier in a statement, Air Selangor corporate communications head Elina Baseri said the upgrading and maintenance works were expected to be completed by 11pm today.

She said water supply was expected to return in stages to affected consumers in the Klang Valley starting at 5pm tomorrow (Thursday) once the water supply system has been stabilised.

The restoration in affected areas, she said, varied depending on the location of the consumers' premises and the current water pressure of the supply distribution system.

Elina added the water supply was expected to be fully restored at 9pm on Saturday (Oct 16).

Meanwhile, resident Mohd Taufik Abd Rahman applauded Air Selangor for sharing detailed account of the maintenance work with the people.

Abu Ekin praised Air Selangor for the early notification on the water disruption.

"We are most thankful for the early announcement, as this allowed us to prepare and store water early," she wrote.

A car wash operator at Bandar Saujana, Afif Alias, 29, said he was thankful that there were no major water disruption at his shop.

"Since morning, there has been low water pressure, but the tap is not dry," he said, adding water supply was also not disrupted at his house in Puchong.

It was reported that total of 998 areas in the Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor are expected to be affected by the four-day scheduled water supply disruption, due to upgrading and maintenance work on critical assets at the SSP1 WTP.
