KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic volume registered an increase following the resumption of interstate travel with 3.8 million vehicles recorded on major highways and expressways nationwide on Wednesday.
Federal Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy director Datuk Mohd Nadzri Hussain said there were 1,075,408 vehicles along the North-South Expressway followed by 97,758 vehicles on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway and 34,041 vehicles along the East Coast Expressway (LPT1) on the same day.
Mohd Nadzri said checks showed traffic at seven main toll plazas recorded a significant increase on Wednesday compared to the same day the previous week.
The Jalan Duta Toll Plaza recorded 54,733 vehicles on Wednesday compared to 43,148 vehicles on Oct 6.
"The Sungai Besi Toll Plaza registered similar trends where traffic increased by 30 per cent to 35,881 vehicles (on Wednesday) compared to 27,501 vehicles (last week).
"A total 18,336 vehicles were recorded at the Skudai Toll Plaza, which is an increase of 13 per cent compared to 16,213 vehicles the previous week," he said.

The Karak Toll Plaza, he said, registered a 31 per cent increase from 7,278 vehicles last week to 9,561 vehicles on Wednesday.
He said the Malaysian Highway Authority together with highway concessionaires are not only monitoring traffic volume but also compliance with standard operating procedures among motorists who used facilities available at the highways and expressways.
"The department is also working closely with highway concessionaires and enforcement will continue to ensure road users comply with the SOPs," he said.
