REMBAU: Part of Jalan Pulau Mampat-Seberang Batu Hampar has collapsed following three hours of continuous heavy rain and an overflowing river.
This has caused residents in some of the surrounding areas to be cut off from access.
District Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohamad Najib Mustafa said the Public Works Department (PWD) received a complaint about the road collapsing at 4pm on Wednesday.
Photos of the collapsed road showed the stretch split into two.
Najib said authorities rushed to the scene to prevent road users from passing through the road.
"Road users can take an alternative road, namely Pulau Mampat, and exit towards Rembau town. The other road is currently closed.
"In fact, water has been overflowing from Sungai Batu Hampar; Sungai Ibor; Sungai Pedas; Sungai Batu and Sungai Mampong.
"Thankfully, the situation is currently under control and as of 6pm, no victims were evacuated. However, we will monitor the flood and the rivers' situation from time to time, especially in Kampung Sungai Ibor," he told Harian Metro when contacted.
Najib advised road users to be careful and use routes which are unaffected by the incident to reach their destinations.
Meanwhile, several other locations in the Seremban and Port Dickson districts experienced flash floods. They included Mambau, Ampangan and Jimah in Port Dickson.
Several incidents of fallen trees also occurred in Labu and Taman Bukit Chedang here causing traffic congestion.
In Klang, flash floods have hit several residential areas and left vehicles stuck.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the flood was caused by a river overflowing due to heavy rain.
The worst hit flood area was Jalan Mohd Yamin, which affected 15 houses.
"The Fire and Rescue Department received a call at 5.28pm which reported that the areas were in 1.8m-deep flood waters."
As of 7.32pm, personnel from the Port Klang and Banting fire stations have rescued 31 residents.
"The victims involved 10 men, 12 women, three boys, four girls and two female senior citizens.
"The latest developments will be updated from time to time," he said when contacted today.
Norazam said the station also received a call at 5.14pm about a flood affecting an arear around a shopping centre at Persiaran Bukit Raja 2, Bandar Baru Klang.
"Sungai Pinang station personnel were deployed to the scene and the team found that the flash flood had inundated part of the Federal Highway involving a stretch from Klang towards Kuala Lumpur.
"The area was in 1.2m-deep water and five vehicles were stranded," he said.
Meanwhile, a team from the Kota Raja fire station responded to a distress call it received at 5.16pm reporting about floods in Taman Melawis.
"The area was 0.3m-deep in floods and 20 houses were inundated. However, no residents were evacuated.
"Based on reports we received from our officers, the flood had later receded and the situation was under control," said Norazam.
