SLIM RIVER: A total 400,678 or 97 per cent teachers across the country have been fully inoculated against Covid-19 as of Saturday, said the Deputy Education Minister.
Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said another 408,331 or 98.7 per cent had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
"There are teachers who have yet to receive their Covid-19 vaccination due to health issues and other factors but they only represent a small number.
"We encourage all teachers to get vaccinated to protect themselves from the virus," he told reporters after visiting Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pos Bersih, here, today.
Also present was Education Ministry deputy director-general (school operation sector) Dr Ahmad Rafee Che Kassim.
On a separate note, Dr Mah said the ministry is mulling to build a secondary school in Kampung Sawa in Kampung Slim here to facilitate students especially the Orang Asli community from Pos Bersih and Pos Tenau.
"The closest secondary school is located about 24km from their settlement. We have found a suitable site to develop the school.
"We want to find solutions for the Orang Asli here and that includes transportation for them," he said.
Dr Mah added that this matter would be discussed further at the ministry level before any decision could be made.
"The government is always coming up with various efforts to improve the education quality among Orang Asli students," he added.
