Rayer briefly booted out of Dewan Rakyat after claiming Azeez was 'insulting' Tamil language [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Outspoken opposition Member of Parliament R S N Rayer (PH-Jelutong) was ejected briefly from the Dewan Rakyat today.

His ejection from the August House stemmed after he repeatedly called for Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim (BN-Baling) to stop "insulting" the Tamil language.

The DAP lawmaker was told to leave the lower house of Parliament for ten minutes by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun after he refused to heed his instructions and continued his interjections on Azeez who was debating the Wildlife Conservation (Amendment) Bill 2021.

"YB Jelutong, I order you to leave (the House) for 10 minutes from the moment you step out of the door," he said.

Moments earlier, Rayer interjected Azeez who was sharing his experience in speaking Tamil to an elephant.

Rayer said the Baling MP's remarks were rude, illogical and disrespectful to the language.

"Speaker, I am sorry, I would like to ask Baling to not repeat .... it is insulting to the Tamil language.

"There is no logic that he can speak to an elephant, I ask him not to repeat it," he said.

Before asking the MP to leave, Azhar repeatedly told Rayer to sit down and said the Baling MP was not insulting the language by sharing his story.

Earlier, Azeez claimed that elephants could speak and understand three languages, Burmese, Thai and Tamil, and decided to speak to an injured male elephant in Tamil. He defended his story because it was his personal experience.

After Rayer was told to leave the House, Azeez ended his speech by requesting for more State Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) officers in the country to deal with injured wildlife and protect them.
