KUALA LUMPUR: The Housing and Local Government Ministry will soon introduce MyBeautiful Keluarga Malaysia initiative to enhance low-cost dwelling in the country.
Its Minister Datuk Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the programme involves multi-storey residential schemes with strata titles but without a joint-management body (JMB) or joint-management corporation (JMC).
He said 68 projects would be carried out through the initiative, with 35 residential schemes identified.
It involves repair and maintenance on facilities with an estimate cost of RM14.95 million, he said.
"The PPR (people's housing scheme) liveable assessment index (Penilaian Indeks PPR Berdaya Huni) would also be carried out as a platform for the community to identify the best practises in PPR management," he said in a parliamentary written reply to a question from Maria Chin Abdullah (PH-Petaling Jaya).
Reezal Merican said it was aimed at, among others, encouraging innovative ideas and excellence to create a sustainable PPR community, facilitate engagement programmes with stakeholders and PPR community; and create a consistent and standard assessment applied to all PPR projects in Malaysia.
He said the ministry would also carry out a Zero Waste Community (ZeComm) programme that would be rebranded as Komuniti Sifar Sisa (KOSIS) to address issues related to cleanliness, in line with the National Community Policy towards a sustainable local community.
"The implementation of KOSIS, through SWCorp, would be a platform for the people, especially those living in PPRs to generate income through waste collection where residents could sell off their recyclable items like plastic, paper, metal, household hazardous waste (aerosols, motor oil and paint supplies), food waste and used cooking oil."
Up to September this year, recyclable items weighing 105,312kg worth a total RM35,168 have been collected.
The initiative, he said, involved 3,124 houses and benefited 12,496 residents.
