ALOR SETAR: Good news for those planning a vacation to Langkawi - ferry services from the Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis terminals will be increased to four trips daily from next month.
Konsortium Ferry Line Ventures, the operator of Langkawi ferry said the additional ferry trips will begin from November 1, in anticipation of higher number of passengers ahead of the Deepavali holiday.
Its human resources and operations manager Baharin Baharom said the additional trips were part of the company's plan to return to normal daily frequencies of 10 trips prior to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak early last year.
"We are gearing up towards full operations as the demands increase for November and December," he said when contacted today.
Baharin said the company is also reactivating the 7.30pm ferry and would increase the evening trip later when demand increases further.
"We are also ready to add more evening trips, subject to demands approval by the Marine Department," he added.
Baharin advised inbound visitors to place their bookings two weeks before their departure dates.
"Our online ticketing system can process the booking as early as a month ahead, and we advise them to make the purchase two weeks prior to departure," he said.
Meanwhile, Jetty Point Car Rental Operators Association, Rosli Ahmad said the tourism sector in Langkawi with domestic inbound travellers was picking up.
"The bookings for November and December are very encouraging, this is a good sign that the Langkawi tourism sector is recovering.
"I am told that the booking rate for rooms and restaurants are also picking for the next two months, so we can say people's confidence to travel again is encouraging," he said when contacted.
