KUALA LUMPUR: Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin reiterated his warning that hospital admissions were on the rise recently and urged the people to take their booster vaccines.
In a Twitter post, he said most of the cases involved elderly people and those with comorbidities who were infected by close contacts (family members).
"Wear a face mask and avoid crowded places. Get a booster when given an appointment," he said today.
Checks at CovidNow portal showed that bed utilisation in hospitals in three states was above 80 per cent.
The states are Terengganu (85.9 per cent or 63 admissions), Kelantan (83.3 per cent or 101 admissions) and Melaka (81.2 per cent or 28 admissions).
Hospitalisation in Kedah, Labuan and Johor were also approaching 80 per cent with 74.9 per cent, 74.5 per cent and 73.8 per cent respectively.
Bed utilisation for Covid-19 at other states was between 45.9 and 69.1 per cent.
Hospital admissions for Covid-19 cases stood at 66.7 per cent or 1,081 admissions as of yesterday (Nov 21).
In terms of intensive care unit (ICU) utilisation for Covid-19 cases, five states were above the 70 per cent mark.
ICU occupancy in Putrajaya was the highest with 85 per cent (eight cases) followed by Selangor with 80.3 per cent (90 cases).
A total 78.1 per cent (33 cases) of ICU beds were being utilised in Kuala Lumpur, 75.9 per cent (42 cases) in Kelantan, and 74.2 per cent (27 cases) in Penang.
The rate at other states was between 41.7 per cent and 69.6 per cent.
The country's ICU utilisation stood at 64.2 per cent with 541 active cases as of yesterday.
There were 68,790 active cases as of yesterday.
A total 55,026 individuals are observing home quarantine, making up 80 per cent of the total active cases in the country.
Another 11.3 per cent (7,792) are being treated at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC), 7.9 per cent (5,431) hospitalised and the remaining 0.8 per cent are at intensive care units (ICU) with 274 unventilated and 267 ventilated.
