Solo cyclist Pak Wan aims for Malaysia Book of Records again

KOTA BARU: Solo cyclist Wan Hashim Wan Mahmood is set to make another record today by cycling around Peninsular Malaysia again.

This is the 7th feat to be made by the 75-year-old, fondly known as Pak Wan. This time the cycling distance will cover about 2,300km. Wan Hashim said he expected to complete his journey on Dec 30.

"Today's cycling will be my 7th solo journey. I will start my cycling first in Kota Baru town before heading to Jerteh in Terengganu.

"I hope I can complete my journey smoothly even though now is the rainy season," he told reporters after leaving for the journey.

The cycling event was flagged off by Kelantan Youth, Sports and NGO committee chairman Wan Roslan Wan Hamat at Darulnaim complex here.

Wan Hashim hoped that his journey this time would enter the Malaysia Book of Records.

Wan Hashim is the oldest man in the country to have cycled around Peninsular Malaysia and so far, had made the journey six times.

His furthest trip was a five-nation solo tour of Southeast Asia where he cycled 5,319km in 49 days.

Wan Roslan hoped that the state government would continue to support Wan Hashim's cycling endeavours.

"We hope that Pak Wan can be an example to others especially the younger generation," he added.
