Sarawak DCM denies profiting from small and major projects

KUCHING: Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister has slammed the opposition for making accusations that he was making profits from the implementation of both small and major projects in the Bukit Saban constituency.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas was puzzled that an opposition candidate, who has been eyeing his Bukit Saban seat, was blatantly defaming him and an aide that they made money from various projects.

"(I am aware) the intended candidate is alleging that we are making profits from the implementation of small and major projects.

"He alleged that we are doing these at the expense of the people and as such, I should be rejected in the coming state polls. This is part of the opposition's effort to undermine me," he said, after opening a modern community pig farm project, which cost RM300,000 at Rh. Entinggang, Munggu Gernis near Spaoh today.

Uggah, who is the incumbent for Bukit Saban, also strongly denied the accusations that he had a hand in deciding who should get the contracts in government projects.

"All the tenders are processed by either the Resident's or the District or the relevant government agencies. This opposition member, it seems he has a disdain for truth and integrity. He is indeed desperate," he said.

"This person is also making big promises to the people here. I hope the voters here are not snared by the accusations or the promises. We have all seen those who are insincere or lack the integrity in their services to the people are rejected like the Pakatan Harapan government and in the recently concluded Melaka state election," he added.

Meanwhile, on the pig farm project, he said it was the first of its kind in the state for a longhouse community.

"The beauty is that it is environmental friendly as the farm discharge is properly treated. The State Veterinary Services Department can introduce the method state-wide," he said.

Among those present were Betong member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat, the permanent secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Edwin Abit and a political secretary to the Chief Minister Dr Richard Rapu, State Agriculture Department Director Dr Alvin Chai and the State Veterinary Services Director Dr Adrian Susin.
